It has been evident during the past year that people now require different things from their buildings, to accommodate the new ways in which people might travel and work. And so what if we could have those things, rethought from old landmarks to accommodate the post-pandemic travel world?
U.K. Holiday Park operator, Parkdean Resorts, has reimagined some of the U.K.’s landmarks, thinking about how they would be rebuilt, if they were commissioned today, taking into account new technology and the need for environmental protection.
Welcome to a fun reimagining of the ‘Harry Potter’ Glenfinnan steam railway in Scotland as a modern hyperloop tunnel. Or the London Eye now used for remote working, with people circling the cityscape in pods for hire.
Big Ben was built in 1843 after the fire of the Palace of Westminster–in 2021, it has been reimagined as an urban wildlife conservation project, fighting London’s pollution as a home for nature. It would have living walls to provide a base for nesting birds and wildflowers, hedges at the base for small mammal protection, and possibly the most controversial touch–a digital clock face would replace the analog one, powered by solar panels.
The London Eye was built to celebrate the millennium, but would now provide a dream remote working location on the River Thames, one of London’s most sought-after views.
Each London Eye capsule would obviously have everything it needed to function as a standalone office space, complete with desks, breakout spaces, a water cooler, and office plants. The best touch is that the wheel could function as a Wi-Fi hub, providing super-fast internet connection to all within a square mile radius.
Just 40 miles (64 km) from the home of Glastonbury, Stonehenge is reimagined as a pioneering concert venue, one of the world's most high-tech open-air venues.
There would be a full-circle stage in the center of Stonehenge, standing room audiences to surround and screens to relay the live action to people at the outdoor bar.
Built in 1897, Glenfinnan Viaduct is recognized by many as the 'Harry Potter' bridge after it appeared in the films but here it is reimagined as a Hyperloop bridge, after Elon Musk's latest innovation.
There would be a hyperloop bridge, with a vacuum-sealed tube to reduce air resistance and increase speed, with a transparent tunnel for passengers to take in the breathtaking views. The ticketing system would use facial recognition and the train would, of course, in an ideal world, be powered by solar energy.
